The must-have Business Startup Checklist

Most of us have business ideas - at least once in a while. Some have them all of the time. Here is a checklist that can help you flesh it out to gain clarity as well as make sure your idea or business is viable.

ASK THE TOUGH QUESTIONS:
  • Would you buy your product/service?
  • Will you make a profit at the price?
  • Are you solving a problem?
  • How so?
  • What makes you different from competition?

JOT DOWN THE GAME PLAN:
  • Do you have enough funds for the first year ( or even longer)  for living expenses?
  • Grants/ Loans/Financing?
  • Do you have a clever Business Name?
  • Brainstorm the domain name/email address.
  • Figure out type of business: Incorporation or sole proprietorship?
  • What permits/licenses are required?

Once you have decided to move forward on an idea, here are some other things you should do:

MARKETING & PROMOTION:
  • Register a domain name for your website
  • Find a website designer. I highly recommend the website designs by Get Iconic . They do sharp, professional designs and have extremely reasonable pricing.
  • Create all social media profiles (ASAP)
  • Determine location or marketing area
  • Networking is key so order those Business Cards. If you aren't a designer, hire someone like THIS.
  • Join a  successful networking group like BNI.    I have been involved with my BNI group for years and it's priceless.

ADMINISTRATIVE:
  • Open a business bank account
  • Set up an accounting system or hire a bookkeeper
  • Decide on a Merchant Services provider for Credit Card Processing
  • Will you need a Point-of-Sale System?  If so, which one?  You can research a few of the most versatile & cost-effective Point-of-Sale systems like Clover MicroSale HERE.
  • Delegate work with co-founders/staff.
  • Put everything in WRITING, at all times. It doesn't matter if your partner is your wife, father, brother or best friend. it is always a good idea to write down duties & responsibilities of each person, as well as, what happens when someone doesn't pull their weight.
There is certainly a lot more to do than this short list, but by the end of this process you should have some clarity on your new business and some great momentum to move into more action!
